What is body therapy?

Body Therapy is a holistic treatment that focuses on the connection between body, mind and emotion. It combines physical techniques such as massage, pressure, breathing exercises, and movement with conversation and mindful awareness. The goal is to release tension, increase body awareness, and bring balance to your nervous system.

Body Therapy can be used both preventively and to address physical pain, stress, and emotional strain. At Manuvision, our approach is evidence-based and unique, ensuring professional and effective care.

WHY CHOOSE BODY THERAPY?

Body Therapy helps create inner calm, increase self-awareness, and release blocked patterns—physically and emotionally. By working directly with the body—through deep pressure, pulsation, breath, and presence—your natural regulatory system is activated. This can calm the nervous system, release tension, and reconnect you with emotions or experiences stored in your body.

Many clients report a stronger sense of inner calm, better resilience, and a deeper understanding of their own needs, reactions, and boundaries. The result is a more authentic connection to yourself and others. Body Therapy isn’t just about relieving symptoms—it’s about fostering change from within, with the body as the gateway to balance and personal growth.

At the same time, body awareness is increased—an awareness of how one truly feels—which can lead to a deeper understanding of one’s needs, reactions, and boundaries. This opens up for a more authentic connection to oneself and others.

Body therapy is not just about relieving symptoms, but about creating change from within—with the body as the entry point to both balance and development.

A trained body therapist has a thorough understanding of the connection between physical and psychological symptoms—and the role of the nervous system in achieving physical and mental balance. The training also provides insight into how trauma and tension can be stored in the body and how to work with them in a responsible and safe way.

A professionally trained body therapist is also skilled in meeting the client with presence and respect, and in working gradually and professionally—especially when deeper emotional layers are uncovered. This not only makes the treatment more effective, but also safe. And that is absolutely essential when working with both the body and the mind.

WHAT IS MANUVISION BODY THERAPY??

Manuvision Body Therapy is an evidence-based form of treatment that works with the connection between body and mind. It treats physical and psychological disorders through the body. We release the tensions behind the body’s symptoms, create balance in the nervous system, and activate the body’s natural healing processes.

In this short explainer, we briefly describe what Manuvision body therapy is.

EVIDENCE-BASED TREATMENT

We specialize in the treatment of a stressed nervous system . Manuvision Body Therapy has been the focus of the first research project on body therapy in Denmark, conducted by the State Institute for Public Health (SDU) in collaboration with the Psychiatry Department of the Capital Region, which demonstrates significant effectiveness in our treatment of PTSD. Manuvision works evidence-based with the treatment of stress and trauma, as well as the physical and psychological conditions that trauma causes—ranging from depression and anxiety to PTSD.

PTSD is a complex condition where trauma is stored not only in the mind but also in the body. Traditional treatments often focus on talk therapy and medication, but body therapy offers a holistic approach by working directly with the body’s physical tension and trauma. Through techniques like pulsation, deep massage, and breathing exercises, Manuvision Body Therapy helps release trapped tension and restore the connection between body and mind

INTEGRATION IN TREATMENT PLANS

Manuvision Body Therapy is often used as a supplement to existing PTSD treatments. By combining body therapy with psychological treatment, a more comprehensive healing process can be achieved, addressing both the mental and physical aspects of trauma.

The positive effect of Manuvision Body Therapy on PTSD symptoms opens up new possibilities for the treatment of trauma. Future research and the integration of body therapy into the healthcare system can help improve the quality of life for individuals suffering from PTSD and other trauma-related disorders.

NEED BODY THERAPY TREATMENT?

Body and mind are interconnected. If there is pain in the body, it affects the psyche, and if you are mentally stressed, it manifests in the body. It is always the body that first signals that something is wrong. And it is the body that suffers the consequences of all our actions—or lack thereof. These consequences manifest as tension, blockages, and thus pain in our bodies. At Manuvision, we want to help you break free from this. We do this by opening up the body and releasing the tension and blockages that lie behind both physical and mental discomfort.

THE BODY REMEMBERS

Our bodies hold the past—the many impressions and experiences of daily life. They reflect our mental well-being, because the body and mind are not separate, but part of a connected whole. This connection runs through the nervous system, which is why Manuvision Body Therapy works directly with the nervous system.

At Manuvision, we often make this connection tangible by looking at the body, thoughts, and emotions. These three elements constantly influence one another. Thoughts can make plans without listening to the body or emotions, which can impact both mental and physical health.

The state of the psyche—our mental and emotional patterns—is therefore inseparably linked to the state of the body. In our treatments, we work to regulate the body, mind, and emotions, understanding how they interact in a continuous feedback loop, restoring balance and well-being.

What Can Body Therapy Help With?

Manuvision Body Therapy can help relieve a wide range of physical and mental conditions, from work-related injuries and physiological imbalances to psychological challenges caused by stress, shock, or trauma.

Here is an overview of the most common conditions we have over 25 years of experience treating:

HOW DOES A BODY THERAPY SESSION PROCEED?

A treatment process with Manuvision Body Therapy, as is often the case in body therapy in general, always begins by creating a safe framework and understanding for the individual client. Every body has its own story, and the treatment focuses on both physical tension and emotional states. The aim is to create a holistic process where body and mind are brought into balance.

INITIAL CONVERSATION

The session begins with a conversation where the client discusses their current condition—both physically and mentally. This may involve specific pains, restlessness, stress, trauma, or simply a desire for better body awareness. The therapist listens and asks questions to get an overall impression of the client’s needs, patterns, and life situation.

This initial dialogue forms the foundation for the treatment and builds trust, allowing the client to let go and open up during the bodywork itself.

BODY TREATMENT

The treatment typically takes place on a massage table in underwear. The therapist works directly on the body using a combination of techniques, including:

  • Pulsation – a rhythmic movement that releases tension and activates the nervous system
  • Deep massage – gently but effectively working on muscle tension and connective tissue
  • Pressure and joint release – to restore mobility and release locked areas
  • Breathing activation – the client is guided to breathe deeply, which strengthens the connection between body and mind and supports the release of old tensions

The treatment is always conducted with respect for the body’s signals and the client’s boundaries. It is not uncommon for suppressed emotions such as sorrow, anger, or relief to surface during the treatment—and this is a natural part of the bodily release.

CONSCIOUSNESS AND REFLECTION

After the bodywork, there is time for calm and reflection. Here, the client has the opportunity to feel the changes in the body and articulate any experiences.

The therapist supports this process by asking questions or helping connect bodily sensations with mental or emotional themes.Often, connections are discovered between old habits, thought patterns, and physical tension—and with this insight, the client can begin to work more consciously on their well-being in daily life

BODY THERAPY IS A PROCESS – NOT JUST ONE SESSION

Although one session can provide great relief and new insights, the deepest change is often achieved through a longer process. Through repetition and continuous work, lasting changes are created in both the body’s tension patterns and the mental preparedness.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BODY THERAPY

Here you can read answers to some of the questions we most often receive about our treatment.

Before the session begins, your Manuvision therapist will talk with you to understand your situation and challenges.

You will then undress (keeping your underwear on) and lie down on the treatment table, covered with a blanket. After the session, once you are dressed again, the therapist will wrap up the session. You may receive general recommendations or exercises, and possibly schedule a follow-up session.

The treatment helps the body release waste products, so it’s important to drink plenty of water over the next 24 hours. You may also feel tired or deeply relaxed for the rest of the day—this is normal, as your body continues to process and integrate the effects of the treatment.

Your comfort comes first. You can choose how much clothing to wear. For the best results, we usually recommend underwear only, but keeping a top or more clothing on is absolutely fine. The most important thing is that you feel relaxed and at ease.

Treatments at Manuvision are gentle, respectful, and guided by your boundaries. Some work on muscle tension may feel slightly uncomfortable, but it should never be overwhelming. The goal is always to release strain and help you feel more open and balanced. That said, body therapy is associated with pain in the sense that the therapist will go into the muscle tensions and contractions that cause your body to tense up.

It’s normal to feel a little tired or have a mild headache after a session, as the body releases waste products. Emotions may also surface, and allowing space for them in the days following treatment can be helpful. There are no long-term side effects.

This varies for each person. Many notice improvements after the first session, but the number of treatments depends on your individual needs. Some may only need a few sessions, others a longer course, and many choose regular sessions to maintain balance and prevent issues.

A typical session lasts around 60 minutes, though this may vary depending on your needs. Your therapist will ensure the pace is comfortable for you.
