Manuvision’s advanced training in shock/trauma equips certified Manuvision therapists to treat clients whose nervous systems have been weakened as a result of shock and trauma. The program is based on our experience in treating severe stress cases and on the evidence supporting the effectiveness of Manuvision body therapy in the treatment of PTSD.

Specialized training in the treatment of shock and trauma
Manuvision is the only body therapy education program that offers a research-based advanced training in the treatment of shock and trauma. We are proud to pass on our research-based knowledge and techniques to the Manuvision practitioners who wish to specialize in treating severe cases of stress, anxiety, and depression.
In the Manuvision Body Therapy training program, you primarily learn to treat stress symptoms in clients who have a balanced nervous system. In the “Shock and Trauma” course, we specifically focus on treating clients with a weakened nervous system. These will typically be clients who:
- Are victims of spontaneous accidents, rape, violence or difficult upbringing
- Suffer from PTSD or severe cases of stress, anxiety and depression
- Are children of parents with PTSD or severe cases of anxiety and depression
The program is divided into two sets of two modules
Block 1: Treatment of PTSD = Modules 1 and 2
Manuvision Shock/Trauma Course Module 1
Content: You will gain an understanding of the nervous system through theory and practice, practical introduction to methods, exercises and regulation tools for working with 1st & 2nd degree stress, in addition you will gain a deeper understanding of the body’s immediate defenses. We will already work here with the therapist’s practice and the path to becoming a super regulator. Outcome: You will be able to work with milder PTSD-hyper states.
Manuvision Shock/Trauma Course Module 2
Content: You will gain a deeper understanding of empathy and the change paradox, be able to track and shift from words to arousal states and sensations, build resources through sensorimotor skills and interoception, exercises for demarcation and space.
Outcome: You will be able to work with deeper PTSD-hyper states.
Block 2: Treatment of Complex PTSD = Modules 3 and 4
Manuvision Shock/Trauma Course Module 3
Content: Through theory and practice you will gain an understanding of the disorganized nervous system and the triune brain, what attachment trauma, inner child and shame states mean, we will work with resource-building exercises with an introduction to neocentric exercises, differentiation of emotions, sensations and attachment patterns.
Outcome: You will gain an understanding and start working with complex PTSD, childhood trauma and hypo-states.
Manuvision Shock/Trauma Course Module 4
Content: We will place special emphasis on how we dose trauma intervention, interoceptive exercises, differentiation of our own feelings and sensations, through exercises for relationship and demarcation we will gain a deeper understanding of the interaction between resources and attachment. Outcome: You will be able to work with complex PTSD, childhood trauma and dosage in the encounter with trauma.
The course concludes with an exam.
The training is based on research into Manuvision body therapy for PTSD.
When people are exposed to shock and trauma, the part of the nervous system that is designed to relate socially and interact with the outside world will be weakened to a degree that can lead to PTSD or severe cases of stress, anxiety and depression. Through our work and research into the treatment of severe stress cases and PTSD, Manuvision has developed special techniques to treat via the nervous system and thereby help the injured person out of difficult physical and psychological conditions.

Learn to treat shock and trauma
In this training program, based on this specialized knowledge, we will teach you to treat the symptoms associated with a weakened nervous system resulting from shock and trauma. These include psychological and physical symptoms such as:
- Restlessness, racing thoughts, and memory difficulties
- Urge to isolate
- Sleep disturbances and nightmares
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Dizziness and shortness of breath
- Muscle and joint pain
- Digestive problems
The traning consists of
- A practice-oriented introduction to reading the nervous system’s activity in the body
- An introduction to specific techniques that enable you to activate the vagus nerve and stabilize traumatic reactions
- An introduction to creating and maintaining a safe space when working with a traumatized person
- A theoretical introduction to the Polyvagal Nervous System based on Stephen Porges’ research
- The program is divided into 4 modules, each consisting of 4 teaching days. The modules can be taken individually (but in sequence).
- The two blocks of the program (Modules 1+2 and Modules 3+4) conclude with an exam.
You will learn
- To identify, normalize, and stabilize traumatic reactions.
- To communicate with the body and the sensitive mind.
- To identify contraction and expansion in the body’s different layers, and how this is reflected in the part of the nervous system designed for “social engagement.”
- On the connection between breathing and emotions, and its link to the nervous system.
- To identify the difference between a shock-related trauma and a trauma resulting from prolonged stress.
- To work with groups, including facilitating group exchanges and training with vulnerable individuals.
- To guide attention into the body, both during a treatment and in meditations.
- To regulate your own nervous system so that you can remain separate from the client’s reactions.
admission requirements
You must be a trained Manuvision body therapist, and we expect that you work with clients on a weekly basis. It is an advantage if you have personal experience with meditation beyond your formal training.
Teachers on the program: Mette Steen Jakobsen, and possibly external instructors.
Practical Information and Dates
The continuing education program consists of 4 modules, with 5 days of intensive teaching per module, taking place on weekdays/ weekends. Please expect to complete assignments between the teaching sessions. We are hoping to start the next training in 2027.

Manuvision body therapy has been the focus of the first research project in body therapy in Denmark, conducted by the National Institute of Public Health in collaboration with Rigshospitalet. The research results show that 6 months of Manuvision body therapy can reduce or completely eliminate PTSD symptoms in war veterans with PTSD. Read more: Research into Manuvision body therapy

BOOK ABOUT TRAUMA TREATMENT
In the book “When the Body is at War” we gather the threads from 25 years of treatment practice with the experiences from the research project into the effect of Manuvision body therapy against PTSD, conducted by the Danish Institute of Public Health (SDU). We introduce our work with relationship and body awareness and the principles and techniques that can regulate the balance in the nervous system and create change in people exposed to trauma. We are also working on translating “When the Body is at War”
